Chatsworth Christmas Market 2026 House Tickets & Dates

Last Updated: 1 July 2026
17 Comments

The Chatsworth Christmas Market is set on the grounds of one of England’s grandest stately homes, with over 100 artisan stalls lining the avenue below Chatsworth House in the Derbyshire Peak District. Film fans may recognise it as Mr Darcy’s Pemberley from the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, and the estate is every bit as impressive in person. What sets this market apart is the combination of a curated outdoor market, a lavishly themed house tour, and a garden light trail, all on one sprawling estate.

Convenient Hotels

Places to stay near Chatsworth House are mostly B&B cottages and suites across the Peak District villages of Baslow, Pilsley, Rowsley and the market town of Bakewell. I suggest staying at Hillside Haven, which is of exceptional standard in nearby Rowlsey. It’s a short drive to Chatsworth House. But take the bus for free access to the Christmas market.

Our Bakewell Christmas Market guide has you covered for an extended visit to the Peak District.

Visitor Feedback Header

Visitor Feedback

What Visitors Loved

  • The stately home backdrop gives this market an atmosphere that city-centre markets simply cannot match. Visitors consistently describe the approach through the estate, especially at dusk with deer running in the parkland, as a highlight in itself.
  • Stall quality is a cut above, with many praising the focus on genuine artisan makers from the Peak District rather than generic mass-produced goods. The rotating stall schedule rewards return visits with new discoveries.
  • The combination of market, decorated house tour, and garden light trail makes Chatsworth a proper full-day outing rather than a quick browse.
  • Dog-friendliness is a big draw. Chatsworth welcomes dogs on leads in all outdoor areas, and several stallholders stock gifts and treats specifically for four-legged visitors.

Common Complaints

  • Parking costs are the most frequent gripe. Weekend rates can feel steep on top of any ticket purchases, and the car parks are a decent walk from the market. The free tractor shuttle helps, but queues build at peak times.
  • Weekend crowds can be overwhelming. Multiple visitors report shoulder-to-shoulder conditions on Saturday afternoons, with long queues at food stalls and difficulty getting close to popular vendors.
  • Food and drink prices at the market attract regular criticism, with hot chocolate, mulled wine and hog roasts all priced at a premium. The Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop nearby is widely recommended as a better-value alternative for a meal.
  • Traffic congestion on the surrounding Peak District roads is a recurring issue, particularly when the market clashes with other local events in Bakewell or Haddon Hall.

The Bottom Line

Chatsworth is one of the best stately home Christmas markets in England, and the setting alone justifies the visit. For the best experience, go on a weekday, arrive early or book an after-3pm parking ticket, and seriously consider taking the bus for free entry and zero parking hassle.

Christmas at Chatsworth

Chatsworth House has been home to the Cavendish family, the Dukes and Duchesses of Devonshire, for over 16 generations. Each November through early January, the house is transformed with a different theme. Visitors can tour around 20 decorated rooms featuring elaborate Christmas trees, intricate table settings and festive displays that change year to year.

The market itself sits on Lodge Hill between the Stables courtyard and the house entrance, with over 100 stalls selling artisan food, drinks and handmade crafts. Many stallholders are Derbyshire and Peak District based makers.

A clever feature: some stalls rotate halfway through the season, so repeat visits are rewarded with new discoveries. Outside, the garden light trail winds through the historic Cascade, Rock Garden and Willow Tree Fountain with theatrical lighting and projections on the house facade.

Travel tips header.

What to Expect

  • Food and Drinks: Look for Chatsworth’s own pork cobs (a Derbyshire staple), Yorkshire pudding wraps, hog roasts, and churros alongside artisan producers like Derek Priestley Cheesemonger, Tipsy Fruit Gins, and Locksley Distilling. You can toast giant marshmallows on an open fire pit, and the Champagne bar served from a double-decker bus is a crowd favourite. Mulled wine, mulled cider and hot chocolate keep hands warm between stalls.
  • Unique Crafts: Stallholders are selected for quality, with many from the Peak District. Expect hand-thrown pottery from Wirksworth Pottery, artisan woodwork from Waney Grain and Cast & Wood, bespoke jewellery, and luxury candles from The Naked Candle Co. These are genuine maker-sold items, not mass-produced imports.
  • Seasonal Items: Handmade wreaths, velvet baubles, hand-knitted Christmas trees and ornaments, plus locally designed cards and stationery. The Chatsworth Stables gift shop also stocks estate-exclusive ranges, though expect a queue on busy days.

Getting There

The Peak District is well connected by public transport and arriving by bus is the smartest option, both for the free entry and to avoid the parking charges and potential traffic congestion that builds up on busy weekends.

Take a train to Chesterfield or Sheffield and connect via the Stagecoach 170 or TM Travel 218 bus to the Chatsworth gates.

If you’re driving, book parking online well in advance as barrier-controlled entry means you cannot park without a pre-booked ticket. Sat-nav postcode is DE45 1PP. You can also park in nearby Baslow and walk across the parkland in around 20 to 30 minutes.

Is there wheel chair access around the house on the the Christmas tour?
If we bring a car with 4 people in for the house, and gardens tour (plus market) do we all have to pay the £34 which includes a car parking spACE?
Also we have a blue badge – can we reserve a blue badge parking space?

It’s best to contact Chatsworth House about that specific question.

I suggest asking Chatsworth House directly about this. I presume it’s from the nearby towns.

If you’re arriving by bus and only going to the Christmas market, it’s free and you don’t need a ticket. If you want to visit the Christmas at Chatsworth event or the Christmas in the Garden event, then book tickets for what you’re interested in.

So I have to pay £15 to park the car and then an additional £29-50 to attend the market. Is this correct? The k you.

No, entry to the Christmas market is free but if you arrive by car you have to pay for parking. If you want to visit the Christmas market only, then you just park for parking.

If you want to visit the house, garden farmyard and the Nordic Christmas event then you have to purchase a ticket for that as you would normally do when visiting Chatsworth.
