Ultimate Christmas Markets is brought to you by Andrea Anastasakis, the Australian travel blogger behind the European road trip travel blog Rearview Mirror.

I moved to Europe in 1999 to study French for a year and ended up staying for more than two decades. I’ve lived and worked in France, the UK, Hungary, Albania and several other countries, and I’ve been visiting Christmas markets across the continent for most of that time.
My first was Prague, and I was hooked immediately. Since then, I’ve visited markets in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Balkans and dozens of other destinations. Some I’ve returned to many times. Vienna in particular holds a special place for me. I’ve visited the markets there with family over the years, and the combination of the Town Hall lights, the Belvedere Palace market and the grand squares around Maria-Theresien-Platz is hard to beat.
I created Ultimate Christmas Markets because I couldn’t find a single reliable source for Christmas market dates and information. Too many sites publish outdated dates or generic descriptions copied from tourism boards. I wanted something better: a site where every destination is researched properly, where dates are checked against official sources each month, and where the recommendations come from someone who has actually been there.
The site now covers more than 300 destinations across Europe and North America, and I update it year-round to make sure the information stays accurate. If you’re planning a trip to the Christmas markets, I hope these guides help you make the most of it.
