Sheffield doesn’t stop at one market. The city runs the main Sheffield Christmas Market in the centre, a separate Victorian market at Kelham Island, and a cathedral lights and tree festival, each with its own personality. With the Peak District on its doorstep and a food scene that’s grown sharply in recent years, there’s enough here to fill a full winter weekend.

Several roads with the Peace Gardens ring Sheffield city centre at the very centre. I would suggest staying anywhere between Sheffield Cathedral and the Moor food market. I recommend the Leopold Hotel as it’s a 2-minute walk to Fargate and a further minute to the Peace Gardens.

Kelham Island Christmas Market
Set aside some time to explore the Victorian Christmas Market held at the Kelham Island Museum, a 20-minute walk from Sheffield’s historic centre. This market opens on the first weekend in December and features more than 80 stalls.
There are many street food options, ranging from traditional hog roasts to wood-fired pizzas, as well as walkabout characters, traditional dancers, and the Snow Queen on stilts. Kids can get involved in crafts at Santa’s Grotto, enjoy miniature engine rides on the Kelham Flyer, and take festive pictures in the Selfie Sleigh. Don’t forget to explore the museum galleries to learn about Sheffield’s steel history.
