Canterbury Christmas Market 2026: Whitefriars Gravel Walk

Last Updated: 1 July 2026
No Comments

With around 120 huts, the Canterbury Christmas Market is now one of the largest seasonal events in the South East, and it keeps growing. The stalls fill the narrow medieval lanes between the cathedral and the old city walls, and the whole setup is compact enough that you can comfortably cover it in an afternoon with a day trip from London.

Convenient Hotels

The ideal place to stay in Canterbury is near the King’s Mile and Canterbury Cathedral. This vibrant area provides immediate access to the festivities and is close to major city attractions and museums. I recommend Number 8, a popular, eco-friendly hotel near the heart of the market action.

What to Expect

The renowned Canterbury Cathedral hosts special services and concerts, creating a spiritual and celebratory atmosphere. The experience features more than 70 traditional wooden chalets selling festive gifts, crafts, and seasonal treats.

Among the highlights is Santa’s Grotto, a magical place for children to meet Santa Claus and receive a small gift. A highlight for adults is the locally produced Kentish ales and gins, which draw appreciative crowds.
