Reims Christmas Market 2026: A Champagne Winter

Last Updated: 1 July 2026
No Comments

Every French king from Clovis onward was crowned in this city, and the Reims Christmas Market sits in the shadow of the Gothic cathedral where 33 coronations took place. But it’s the Champagne that defines a winter visit here, with most of the major houses offering cellar tours just minutes from the market stalls.

Recommended Tours

I recommend this guided tour of Reims Cathedral to uncover key highlights with local insight, including the grand statues and stained-glass windows.

For wine enthusiasts, the Champagne and Epernay wineries tour is essential. Traverse Avenue de Champagne, explore Dom Pérignon’s village of Hautvillers, visit historic vineyards, and experience two family-run wineries to appreciate the essence of the region.

What to Expect

Reims plays a significant role in French history, with its Gothic cathedral, where many French kings were crowned. During winter, the city merges its rich past with festive celebrations, creating a unique blend of royal tradition and holiday spirit.

The market features 150 chalets and numerous activities reflecting the city’s grandeur during the festive season. The Ferris wheel at Place d’Erlon provides views of the beautifully lit Great Christmas Tree, while guided tours reveal the illuminated secrets of Reims.

The Children’s Kingdom and Santa’s House cater to younger visitors. Most importantly for the region, experiencing the festive spirit of the area through Champagne tasting sessions in local cellars is essential.
