Updated with visitor feedback in mind, this guide highlights the best Christmas markets in Scotland. While Edinburgh has the largest market, we’ve moved it down the list this year due to issues with crowds.

1. Glasgow

Glasgow moves into top place this year. The city integrates its modern urban vibe with traditional festivities, spotlighting local music and performances alongside its stalls. Historic city centre wquares become global hubs at Winter Wonderland, with chalets showcasing artisan products, crafts and gourmet food and drink from international traders.

2. Aberdeen

Aberdeen combines the charm of its maritime heritage with regional gourmet specialties, unusual gifts and family-friendly activities. The city’s beautiful granite architecture enhances the moment by reflecting the lights and decorations.

Festive chalets lining Broad Street sell a variety of interesting gifts and souvenirs, as well as gourmet specialties and Scottish treats, to both locals and tourists.

3. Edinburgh

A fusion of traditional charm and Scottish character makes Edinburgh’s festivities stand out against the rest. Located at the heart of the city, East Princes Street Gardens hosts the European Christmas Market, while George Street celebrates local heritage with the Scottish Market.

Edinburgh dates: 14th November 2026 to 4th January 2026

Expect a diverse range of handcrafted gifts, artisanal foods from the region and authentic Scottish souvenirs. Attractions include the Big Wheel, Christmas Tree Maze, and ice skating. You can also ride the Star Flyer for panoramic views of Edinburgh’s iconic skyline.
