Nantes Christmas Market 2026: A Maritime Winter Festival

Last Updated: 1 July 2026
No Comments

I find the Nantes Christmas Market interesting because of how it reflects the city’s dual identity. As the former capital of the Dukes of Brittany and now the gateway to the Loire Valley, you’ll find Breton galettes alongside Loire wines, Atlantic oysters next to inland charcuterie, and a market that spans the historic centre of a city better known for its giant mechanical elephant than its winter traditions.

What to Expect

Nantes takes on a special glow during winter, with streets illuminated and nearly 130 chalets filling Place Royale and Place du Commerce. The city’s maritime history, combined with Loire Valley traditions, creates a distinctive atmosphere.

As western France’s most substantial festive event, the market emphasises quality products with 56% of exhibitors from Nantes and neighbouring regions, focusing on artisanal items that reflect the area’s unique cultural blend of Atlantic coast and river valley influences.

Weekend activities include workshops for children and visits from Santa in his illuminated space.
