Aalborg Christmas Market 2026: Dates and a Ferris Wheel

Two squares in the middle of Aalborg merge into one market from mid-November, so the Aalborg Christmas Market never feels as crowded as it seems. The huts run from the old square by the cathedral into the newer one next door. That leaves room to stop for gløgg without being jostled. Ride the Ferris wheel for a look down over the rooftops to the Limfjord.

Christmas in Aalborg

Wooden huts fill Gammeltorv, the old market square beside Budolfi Cathedral and the Old Town Hall, and carry on into Nytorv, so there’s room to move even on a busy afternoon. The Ferris wheel is the landmark. From the top you look down on the cathedral’s white tower and out over the rooftops to the Limfjord.

Down at ground level, a carousel turns for the youngest visitors and a little Christmas train sets off through the shopping streets. Danish food stalls share the square with a Dutch cheese seller and a churros van, and the Christmas café has covered seating for when the wind comes in off the water.

Local Specialties

• Half-metre hot dog: The grill hut’s giant sausage is the one people travel for, so expect a short queue.
• Æbleskiver: Hot from the Christmas café, three to a plate, with jam for dipping.
• Roast pork sandwich (flæskestegssandwich): Slices of roast pork with crackling, red cabbage and pickles in a soft bun.
• Gløgg (mulled wine): The Danish take on mulled wine, served with raisins and chopped almonds in the cup.
• Sugar-roasted almonds: Roasted in sugar and cinnamon in big copper pans, and you’ll smell them before you see the stall.
• Honey hearts (honninghjerter): Heart-shaped honey cakes coated in chocolate, a Danish Christmas favourite.
