Chester Christmas Market 2026: Dates in Cheshire

Last Updated: 1 July 2026
No Comments

Built within Roman walls and layered with medieval Rows, the two-tiered covered galleries you won’t find anywhere else in England, Chester is one of those cities that suits winter particularly well. The Chester Christmas Market fills the area around the Town Hall with roughly 80 stalls, and the scale stays manageable enough that it never feels overwhelming.

Convenient Hotels

Most visitors to Chester stay within the Roman City Walls, and I recommend this area for a short stay. The Coach House Inn is a great option here. From this small hotel, you step out directly to some of the main sights, including Chester Cathedral.

What to Expect

The city has Roman sights such as the Roman Amphitheatre, City Walls, Corner Tower, and Roman Gardens. The city centre is compact, walkable, surrounded by open green spaces, and decorated with festive lights.

The market chalets are primarily located along Northgate Street and around Town Hall Square, with roughly 70 chalets. A traditional Christmas tree stands at the centre. Diverse offerings range from unique, locally made produce to handmade crafts and jewellery. Full details on what to buy are provided below.
